What is Sorona?

Sorona is a new bio-based elastic fiber developed by DuPont. Its scientific name is PTT (Polytrimethylene Terephthalate) fiber. Sorona is a partially renewable and environmentally friendly fiber, with 37% of its raw materials coming from renewable plant-based sources.

Characteristics of Sorona

  • Eco-Friendly: Partial raw materials from renewable plant resources, reducing dependence on petroleum
  • Excellent Elasticity: Unique spring-like molecular structure provides superior and lasting elasticity
  • Soft Hand Feel: Soft touch, similar to spandex
  • Chemical Resistance: Resistant to most chemicals and washing
  • Easy to Dye: Can be dyed at lower temperatures, saving energy and being environmentally friendly
  • UV Resistance: Good resistance to ultraviolet radiation

Sorona vs Other Fibers

  • More eco-friendly than spandex, partially biodegradable
  • Softer and more elastic than polyester
  • Better UV resistance and chemical resistance than nylon

Applications of Sorona

Sorona is widely used in:

  • Sportswear: Athletic wear, yoga wear, fitness wear
  • Swimwear: Excellent chlorine resistance
  • Denim: Partial replacement for spandex
  • Home textiles: Curtains, bedding
  • Underwear: Soft and comfortable

Advantages of Sorona Fabrics

  • Environmentally renewable, aligned with sustainable development trends
  • Lasting elasticity, resistant to sagging
  • Comfortable wear, body-hugging
  • Easy care, resistant to deformation after washing

With increasing environmental awareness, Sorona, as a new eco-friendly elastic fiber, is being increasingly widely used in various clothing fabrics and represents one of the important directions for the future development of textile fabrics.
