Basic Concepts
DTY (Draw Textured Yarn): Produced by stretching and false-twist texturing of POY (Pre-Oriented Yarn), giving it crimp, bulkiness, and stretch.
FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn): Produced through a one-step spin-draw process where the filament is fully drawn and oriented during spinning.
Key Differences
| Property | DTY | FDY |
|---|---|---|
| Process | POY + draw texturing | One-step spin-draw |
| Elasticity | Good stretch with crimp | Low stretch, more rigid |
| Bulkiness | High bulkiness | Moderate |
| Hand Feel | Soft | Crisp and firm |
| Strength | Medium | High |
| Appearance | Similar to spun yarn | Smooth and uniform |
| Price | Lower | Higher |
Applications
DTY is suitable for:
- Elastic fabrics, spandex core-spun yarn
- Knitted fabrics
- Socks and underwear
- Home textile fabrics
FDY is suitable for:
- Silk-like fabrics
- Women's apparel fabrics
- Decorative fabrics
- Industrial textiles
How to Choose
The choice between DTY and FDY depends on the requirements of the final product:
- Good elasticity needed → Choose DTY
- Crisp hand feel needed → Choose FDY
- Bulky appearance needed → Choose DTY
- High strength needed → Choose FDY
Each fiber type has its own advantages. In practice, DTY and FDY can also be combined to achieve the best results for specific applications.
